Week 1

Bachelor of Science Project:

Week 1:

After being introduced to the BSC Creative Computing course, I was told by our lecturer Wayne Gallear that we’ll each individually be working on a project throughout the entire year from October 2018 to May 2019. Today, however, I am noting down my initial ideas that I could potentially transform into a working project.

Initial Ideas for the Degree Project are the following:

First Idea:

For my first idea, I was of thinking of creating a game using the Unreal Engine or Unity Engine. Due to having some experience, with his in mind I believe I could create a fully-working game without of the without any of the previous bugs and errors. For example, previous I could not get the Enemy NPCs to follow their patrol routes and I could only get them to follow the Player character in a “Zerg Rush”-style wave, which ruined the immersion.

Second Idea:

For my other Game-related idea, I was thinking that I could perhaps create a Web-based Game using HTML, CSS and JavaScript. This’ll allow me to create a game that will run on current Web browsers as well as Mobile devices and Desktop. Additionally, I would have to decide whether or not it’d be 2D or 3D. As well as how I’d be able to save features, such as high-scores, etc. With this in mind, I was thinking I could create a game based on Blackjack or Poker, or even create some sort of “Bubble Shooter”-type game.

Third Idea:

A few years ago, I had created a basic 3D Model and Animated it using Maya for my Level 3 Videogame Design course. For the project, I would create a 3D Model from scratch, and I could even link it to the “3D Modelling and Animation” unit. My only issue is that I found Maya difficult to learn from and follow any tutorials. Personally, I found it to be somewhat unenjoyable and stressful. As a result, if I were to choose this idea, I’d have to consider using other 3D Modelling programs other than Autodesk Maya.

Fourth Idea:

For my fourth idea, I was thinking I could create a site for business. In order to do this, I would have to find a company that requires a website built for them and discuss the finance behind it and see how much we’d have to spend on getting it live. Additionally, we would also have to consider the design of the website and functionality, and whether or not it could add users to go online and if they could buy items online (E-Commerce).

Fifth Idea:

And for my final idea, I was thinking I could challenge myself by creating a remote-controlled robot and then programming it to follow my commands from a Mobile Phone. As a result, I could even link it to my “Ubiquitous Computing” unit. As such, I enjoy the idea of getting my hands dirty and physical, as I have not built a robot before nor programmed one. By doing this, I could program to follow my commands through a remote or voice.
